Klaus Krauser, DVM, PhD

Dr. Krauser is currently Vice President, Global Head of Toxicology at Merck Serono, Geneva, Switzerland, with site responsibilities in Ivrea, Italy, Darmstadt, Germany, Boston, MA, USA, and Tokyo, Japan. He studied Veterinary Medicine at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany, and got his Ph.D. in veterinary pathology. Dr. Krauser is German Board certified in Veterinary Pathology, in Toxicopathology, as well as in Pharmacology and Toxicology. He is also a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists. From 1981 through 1986 Dr. Krauser was a resident and scientific assistant at the Institute of Veterinary Pathology of the Freie Universitaet Berlin, Germany. In 1986 he joined ASTA Medica AG, the pharmaceutical branch of Degussa AG, in Halle/Westfalia, Germany, as a pathologist in the field of Toxicology. He became involved in international drug development programs, and gained proficiency in in vitro and in vivo toxicity testing, in genetic toxicology and in reproductive toxicology. He left the company in 2000 as Head of Experimental Toxicology. From 2000 through 2003 Dr. Krauser was Head of Short- and Long-term Toxicology (in vivo toxicology, pathology, reproductive toxicology) and one of the leading scientists for the preclinical project development at Schering AG in Berlin, Germany. In May 2003 Dr. Krauser joined Abbott Laboratories and was globally responsible for Toxicology/Pathology/ Comparative Medicine, Preclinical and Clinical Drug Analysis, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics with sites in the US, Germany and Japan. From October 2007 he served as Senior Director of Drug Safety Evaluation at Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in San Diego, CA, USA.
