Ruth Lightfoot-Dunn, Ph.D, BVetMed, FRCPath

Ruth Lightfoot-Dunn is Vice President of Comparative Biology & Safety Sciences, Amgen Inc.  She is responsible for the day to day operations, scientific delivery and strategic development of preclinical safety evaluation and laboratory animal research in order to support programs in research, preclinical development and clinical development, and has been with Amgen 2 ½ years. She has been in the pharma/biotech industry for 19 years.

She has previously held various positions in the US and UK in GlaxoSmithKline (Vice President, Safety Assessment, Director, Preclinical Projects, Director, Pathology) after joining Glaxo Group Research, UK as a veterinary pathologist in 1992, and in Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals (Pathologist) prior to 1992.  She completed her PhD in comparative ophthalmic pathology at the University of London (Institute of Ophthalmology and Royal Veterinary College) after holding positions in general practice and an internship in the Department of Surgery, Royal Veterinary College.  She received her degree in Veterinary Medicine & Surgery from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1981.  She is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.  She is a member of the ILSI-HESI Board of Trustees and is currently Chair of the PhRMA Preclinical Safety Leadership Committee (Drusafe).  Her research interests include retinal pathology and cardiac valvular disease organization.
