John Burkhardt, DVM, PhD


John Burkhardt is Global Head of Preclinical Safety at Abbott Laboratories,  where he is responsible for all aspects of Toxicology, Pathology, Comparative Medicine and related fields. John joined Abbott in 2008, following a nearly 15 year career at Pfizer. John holds DVM and Phd degrees from Purdue University, along with Board Certifications by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and the American Board of Toxicology. John's passions have been in the area of early safety, at the discovery interface, as well as use in mechanistic approaches to risk manage compounds in dveleopment. John is based at the headquarters of Abbott Laboratories, in the north suburban area of Chicago, Illinois. In addition to Chicago, Precinical Safety at Abbbott has staff at U.S. sites in Worcester, Massachusetts and Redwood City, California, along with multiple sites in Europe.
